“Children with Joy within Their Hearts”

Why do humans feel joy? Humans are creatures who derive pleasure and satisfaction from the secretion of neurotransmitters within the brain, thereby generating positive emotions. We are also filled with joy and happiness when we achieve our goals or obtain what we desire. Furthermore, joy also arises from expectations, hope, and a sense of security. It also stems from social connections, such as praise or gratitude from family, friends, or others. The capacity to feel joy is a power that can be cultivated, enhanced, and enriched by recognizing things to be thankful for, deepening connections with others, and expanding those bonds.
At our school, we hope to nurture the ability to feel real joy in young hearts. Rejoicing is enhanced by understanding each other, including our strengths and weaknesses, helping each other, and laughing together. Rather than lamenting what we cannot do, we celebrate what we can and have accomplished, and by building upon small successes, we foster the ability to accept ourselves and others. By engaging the five senses bestowed upon us, savoring the joy of experiential learning through encountering beauty and wonder, and feeling nature and authenticity, we cultivate the power to uncover the essence of things. Furthermore, not only do we find our own joy, but the time we spend working for the happiness of others opens us to new ideas and perspectives, generating new joy and creativity.
“Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice!” (Philippians 4:4). The rejoicing that the Bible repeatedly preaches is not just a temporary emotion, but a joy that is accompanied by a deep sense of satisfaction and peace. With this deep joy, even when you encounter difficulties, trials, setbacks, or despair, you can believe in future growth and hope, and discover new joy and gratitude. Having true joy in the heart will lead to actions that come from good intentions, develop the habit of sustaining these actions, and change into a person who is “always rejoicing.”
